Quality Techniques
We use joist tape on every deck. It costs about $200 more per project, but we have never had a joist failure on any deck we have built since 2016. We use double flashing at every wall connection.
We use screw-only fastening. No nails. And we use picture frame trim boards for a clean finished edge. A lot of builders skip all of that.

What Makes Building in Hendersonville Different
Hendersonville sits at about 2,200 feet in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The elevation is lower than Asheville, which means winters are slightly milder and the terrain is gentler. The area has historic neighborhoods around downtown Main Street and newer subdivisions mixed with apple orchards and farmland.
Most Hendersonville lots have gentle to moderate slopes. Unlike steeper mountain terrain, you rarely need helical piers or complex engineering. Standard elevated decks and reasonable grade work handle most properties well.
Henderson County enforces the North Carolina Residential Code. Any deck over 30 inches above grade or attached to the house needs a permit and inspections. We have pulled over 200 permits in Henderson County since 2013 and manage the full process.
Hendersonville's clay soil and tree canopy mean decks hold moisture longer than in open areas. The area also has good lake access nearby with properties around Lake Osceola that need specialized waterfront construction. Composite decking with proper flashing holds up better than pressure treated lumber in these conditions.
